Goals for TierraMon this month!

TierraMon is beginning development today in full! Based on a prototype made for another Jam I'm now beginning full development.

So, what's in store for TierraMon?

TierraMon is going to allow you to capture monsters, battle monsters, train them, build items for them, and meet people all just through audio!

Having gotten lots of feedback from the audio game community I'm excited to start. There will be a new story, and many features added since the proto type. Today is mostly planning, getting my team of wonderful SFX artists that volunteered to help up to speed, and planning out every feature I want to have in the final game!

The goal is to have around 50 TierraMon by the end of it, 100 or so moves, and the ability to find 4 of the dreaded "Titans" that stalk the tunnels of Tierra, and a variety of equipment you can find to give to your TierraMon to change how they battle.

As an audio game, a big challenge will simply be navigation. The ability to move around and get feedback is one taken for granted in normal games, and audio games can sometimes be difficult to navigate. But to account for that I've came up with a number of helpful ways to address this!

1. You're in first person view in this game! That's right,  if you hear something to your right, it means turning to your right will make you face it. If you are ever confused on where something is, doing a quick turn will allow you to figure out where it is by hearing the sound change around you.

2. Your TierraGuide will be by your side through most of the game and will be able to tell you what direction you're facing, with signs giving direction such as north then west the TierraGuide will give you information on which way you're facing so you won't get disoriented.

3. Objectives make sounds! The door going forward makes a sound, the door to go back makes a sound! So you always know how to get there. But there will be side objectives.

4. Fast travel! From your base camp you will go to the different regions to collect Tierra Fragments, find new TierraMon, and complete your missions. As well as that, your TierraGuide can instantnly guide you back to base camp at any time. So if you ever feel hopelessly lost, you can reset back home.

5. Guide mode - If you ever are tired of exploring and want to just find where the exit is, guide mode is a planned feature where your TierraGuide will tell you the exact directions you need to make to get to your next objective. So you can explore to your hearts content, find rare TierraMon, items, etc. then turn on guide mode to be lead to the next part of the story.

6. Signs by Tierra Rangers of the past! In this world, navigating in the dark is normal, so Tierra Rangers look out for one another. Leaving directions on where things are, what to look out for, and even what different sounds mean.

7. Alert when you are newly facing a wall.

8. Echoing if you are surronded

9. Wind blowing to tell you when a tunnel is open to your left/right

As I go I'll also explain how the other systems in the game work! But for now, keep an eye out, this will be exciting!
