First demo of the Unseen RPG Engine is now available
Hello everyone,
I'm super happy, and very nervous, to say that the Unseen RPG Engine now has a usable demo!
Before getting into downloading and features, I want to be be very upfront with what this version is! This is a very early version, I don't even know if it's a minimum viable product yet. Simple RPG's can be made, and it is blind accessible, so I am proud of that. But there is still a long way to go.
As a sighted developer I have done my best to get feedback on what a good blind accessible engine will be, but I am going to miss the mark. This is a super niche game engine/tool, it allows creations of turn based RPG games with a set movement engine.
So there are two big questions I need help answering.
1. Is the idea any good? I am making a super niche engine that allows making turn based RPG's with a set movement engine, with the hope one day that someone who relies on screen readers and has 0 programming experience such as students, musicians, and story tellers can within hours make a proto type and start messing around making games. So the first question is, is such a super specialized engine going to be helpful?
2. Is the approach any good? If you think the idea of a niche game engine like this is good, I would love to know what you think of the approach. Right now a console program generates text files, which is then read by an EXE that I generated with GameMakerStudio. Is it an engine if I made it with GMS2? Dunno to be honest. But I need to know how people feel about this approach. Is the console program good to use with a screen reader? Or will it always be too clunky and recommend something else? GMS2 has a DLL that allows most screen readers to access it on Windows, but it means it'll be awhile before I can do other platforms. Is there a better approach to these?
But also, just general feedback. Is it fun to use, are there parts that are awful, what features are required before you would consider using the engine or recommending it to others for a major project?
I'm collecting feedback here:https://discord.gg/4pwzuuq5E
But with all that out of the way.
The blind accessible engine can be downloaded here, and I'm also releasing two demo games to help with learning the engine that have tutorials/guides included with them that explain how they are made and how they work. I would recommend using the quickstart.txt downloaded here, then doing the two tutorials in this order:

I'm excited to hear from everyone!
